The 2006 NPC Junior California Bodybuilding and Figure Championships were held in Pasadena, California at Sexson Auditorium. It was an amazing show!

Sixty five of the best competitors ever and an auditorium filling crowd of almost 1000 came out for Lonnie Teper's 2006 NPC Junior California at Sexson Auditorium, Pasadena City College in California on a sunny Saturday. An exuberant Lonnie emceed his show with his usual one liners and quips entertaining, informing and making everyone feel a part of things. And after over 235 shows as emcee he is good at it. You could tell that Lonnie was more than pleased about the almost double from last year turn out. And he was quick to thank all of the athletes, their families and friends and all of the fans for being at his 8th consecutive show. Aside from quality competitors, for a local show there were more than enough highlights. Bigger than ever Gunter Schlierkamp, wowed the crowd with his posing and took it out into the auditorium, flexing not only his biceps but that big smile that everyone knows so well.
   Click Image To Enlarge. Look At That Smile. At his bulked up 325 pounds on the way to the Olympia, Gunter dwarfed his pose down challenger, Derek Farnsworth. It seems like Derek is never off season and although giving up over 100 pounds to "GS" you could see why Derek is a pro. And together both of them were very impressive.
  Gunter & Derek. By the way, big "GS" predicts his best ever physique and his win this year at the Olympia. In full agreement was the beautiful competitor Kim Lyons, just now sporting an engagement ring from Gunter. Asked by Lonnie if she likes big guys, Kim said that she likes her big guy with "GS" grinning ear to ear right next to her.
 Click Image To Enlarge. Lonnie With The Happy Couple. Not to be outdone in the guest posing was Cathy La Francois. Yes we all knew her as Cathy Priest but as La Franois she is the new and improved version. Slimmed down and gorgeous, it was obvious from the roar of the crowd that she has a big fan base. Cathy has tried her hand at figure but since her appearance at the "Cal" she has been contemplating going back into bodybuilding.
   Click Image To Enlarge. Cathy La Francois. She confided to me over a week ago that she was going to make the change but seemed unsure. But now she has made the decision and is happier than ever with making up her mind. Cathy has what the IFBB wants in women, less size and retaining femininity so we should see her do well and soon. By the way, Cathy also is happy about her decision for another reason; she says she "hates training like a girl". The crowds were not disappointed with the vendors either. Lots of good info, eye candy and freebies were handed out. And not to be outdone was Bodybuilding.com with Russ DeLuca on hand with special t-shirts for all of the athletes specially made for Lonnie's show.
 Click Image To Enlarge. Lookin' Good Guys! And then Russ took it one step further by bringing the beautiful Timea Majorova along to hand out more great stuff to the fans. It was an enthusiastic crowd and a bunch of determined athletes that showed up in Pasadena this Saturday. We can expect that next year it will be even better again.
