Bodybuilding.com and Joe Wheatley Productions brought the excitement and muscle back to Venice Beach this Memorial Day with the first of three summer shows scheduled for Muscle Beach this year. Hosted by the Venice City Parks and Recreation Dept., the holiday shows had dwindled to just twenty or so competitors in the last few years, but this year over 60 contestants showed off their physiques to a packed crowd of beachgoers, that were treated to a show deserving of the birthplace of bodybuilding. With Bodybuilding.com as the title sponsor the show began with a flyover by Army Blackhawk helicopters and ended with a routine by Lauren Powers that included the Bodybuilding.com girls dancing to the Beach Boys' California Girls. MC Bill Grant kept the show rolling and the fans showed off their strength at the Bodybuilding.com booth by 'ringing the bell" on the old time hammer machine provided courtesy of Gold's Gym, Venice. Everyone also enjoyed hanging on the beach with some of todays stars like Roland Kickinger, Laura Mak, Tommy Thorvildsen, Valentina Chepiga, Carmen Garcia, Elaine Goodland, Brenda Kelly and Bob Cicherillo. There were also some great physiques on stage but none better than overall winner Randy Cammacho.
The next show is on Sunday, July 4th, so make your plans, pack that suit and sun tan oil, and join us in celebrating the nations birth at the birthplace of our sport, Muscle Beach.
