The 2006 NGA Northwest Naturals Bodybuilding & Figure Contest was held on April 29th at the Timberline High School Auditorium in the beautiful city of Boise, Id.
History was made with a record number of competitors and spectators. The field of athletes came from Idaho, Washington, Oregon, Utah, Wyoming, and Montana competing in 16 divisions: Teen, Novice, Master, Figure, Open Women, Open Men, and Pro Bodybuilding. No one envied the judges.
The "City of Trees" has long produced some of the best male and female natural bodybuilders and figure contestants in the northwest, and this show was no exception. With competitors and the vocal crowd of trainers, friends and family buzzing, the bodybuilders waged several classic battles that resulted in nail-biting one-point decisions.
The Men's Lightweight Class had to be one of the hardest for the judges. The great conditioning and symmetry of Brandon Poe led him to final victory. He is one of many young competitors with a great deal of potential in this competitive sport. We are looking forward to seeing him in many more shows to come.
The Women's Pro Class had Karin Kimura leading the pack as usual. She always has an energetic routine that gets the crowd cheering her on.
In the Men's Pro division Lance Sganzini and Allen Bowlden battle in what seems to be the longest pose down in bodybuilding history with enough quarter turns to make the tense onlookers dizzy. The crowd was on their feet in amazement until the last trophy was handed out.
The competitive nature of these division winners no doubt carries over into their everyday lives. It takes dedication, devotion, and willpower, among many other qualities to get in the physical condition that it takes to compete in the bodybuilding, figure and fitness sport.
Bodybuilding is a fast growing sport that has an unlimited potential of growth while the whole world is becoming more and more health conscious. We owe thanks and appreciation to the organizations that sponsor and promote these events every year.
