If you read the BB.com message boards, you have most likely seen the user "Sixpack" (Justin Hagar) post.
I have been working with Justin over the past 2 years, and after much hardship, Justin is headed in the right direction. Justin was suffering from an eating disorder, but has fought against it and won. Here is the story of Justin Hagar:

I Was Getting Too Skinny
"It was December of 2000; I just finished up my first year of college football at Valley City State University in North Dakota. We started our off season lifting programs and workouts, which consisted of 4 days per week lifting and 2 days of conditioning.

As many of you who have played at the college level know, it's very competitive and one is always looking over his shoulders on the depth chart. Being a wide receiver, I knew I needed to get faster as I ran a 4.75. Not bad, but not good enough for my standards, plus I was the only "white boy" receiver, ha-ha.
My thinking was that I will out work my opponents and put in extra time by doing my own workouts. This involved high intensity cardio everyday along with lifting 7 days per week. This continued through the winter.

I ended the season in December at 175 pounds, but by May I was down to 141 pounds. I thought that losing weight would make me faster.
I limited what I ate to no more then 2,000 calories per day. I counted every single thing I put in my mouth. Even the little things such as mustard, ketchup, you name it - I counted it.
My friends, family, and coaches all noticed what was going on and had mentioned to me that I was getting too skinny. My social life went down the sh*t hole as I lost all interaction with my family and friends.

I broke up with my girlfriend whom I cared about a great deal. All these things that were so important to me at one time were no longer important, I just did not care. I cared only about one thing - working out, and how I looked.

Resulting Health Issues
The summer of '01 was hard. I moved home with my mom in hopes of getting a chance to eat better and get my life back on track. Well, this did not happen as I had more free time. What does that mean? Well, more working out - doing 2 days lifting in the morning, then running like hell in the afternoon when it's 90-95 degrees (Fahrenheit) out.

Coaches said I needed to be at least 180 lbs. to play, but the heaviest I got was 151 lbs. My bones ached, I was grumpy, my skin was dry, and I was moody and alone. My lowest body fat was 3.9% and I stayed this way for a long time. Also, my sex drive was non-existent!
I never did get help at all, and so in December, after a miserable football season, I was fed up with it. I started reading bodybuilding boards, reading up on nutrition, and started asking a lot of questions. I slowly started eating more food and actually started to feel better.

My bodyweight started to move up and the diet change is what made the difference. I was seeing results.
I started taking two N-Large shakes per day along with my other 5 meals, all of which were clean (healthy) foods that I made in my dorm room. From December until May, I put on over thirty-five pounds and ended at 185.
My body had been starving for so long that it did not take much. People thought I was on steroids, but that was not it, I was just starved before! I had a new girlfriend and I started including my family back in my life again.
I had a much better football season the next season as I was one of the top 4 receivers on our team and we ended up winning the conference.
I graduated and got a job in Arizona. Before I moved to AZ, I became a certified personal trainer. This allowed me to teach during the school year and work part-time in my summers off. It worked out well, plus I got to be the head strength and conditioning coach at the high school I was at.

Fast Forward to year 3 in AZ, 2004-2005. It happened again. I found out how my father actually died combined with being diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, all of which played a role in me getting in to this not-eating-mode again. I got depressed and basically started not eating enough again, and exercising a lot to keep my mind off of things.

Regression And Expert Help
I dropped all the way back down to 162 lbs. I did not worry about my family or anyone else - just my body, eating, and working out. Overtraining and doing a ton of cardio played a role in this. I was moody, rude, and did not really care about my job any more, it became secondary.
Then I got a break in 2004-2005. This is when I met Derek Charlebois A.K.A. 'Beast'. I started talking with Derek about my weight and showed him pictures and he said automatically that I needed to put on some weight. I had not told Derek about my eating problems at all just because I was afraid of his reaction.
Derek was great. He set up a workout routine and diet for me, all set in stone, and all I had to do was follow it. Well, I started out by following the workouts, but never the diet because of my fear of getting fat. I was not gaining and I was always looking for an excuse.

I would tell Derek I was following the diet but deep down never did. Derek would make adjustments but I never made them. I just continued on doing a ton of cardio and not eating. Derek did get upset with me and knew something was not right with the picture. Derek and I didn't talk for some time, due to my problems and me not taking his advice and following what he was saying.
This continued for about 3-4 months until I told Derek everything about my past. Derek was upset about this and I admit I should have told him right off the bat.
In 2005, I was introduced to Chuck Rudolph. His website is DietsByChuck.com. He is a sports nutritionist for SciVation and has worked with many, many athletes.

Chuck, as many may know, is a big advocate of high fat and protein diets for the most part. I, myself, was scared at first, as the fear of getting fat is always in the back of my mind. Chuck made up the diet for me and is one of the most detailed diets I had ever had.
I had worked with Derek, Bobo, and others, never following a diet, so this was it. Once again, many questions for Chuck along with concerns about me about drove Chuck over the edge, but he did listen. The diet made up for my activity level as Chuck was the only one to ever not tell me to stop doing cardio, which is why I stuck with him.
Chuck was always positive, answering every email within minutes. He would get frustrated with me and would just tell me to follow the damn diet and eat what was listed! Right away I was hesitant again, and did not follow it to a 'T'. Well, over time, the more I did follow it, the better the results I would get.

Road To Gains
I finally started (in earnest) with Chuck as my dietician, while continuing to work with Derek for weight training. I re-started at 166 pounds at about 6% BF. I ended the bulk with Chuck and Derek at 194 at about 11-12% BF. Truly amazing, if you ask me! I was no longer fearful of fat or food.
Granted, I put on some body fat, but looked healthy and felt great. Compliments by many, along with a new girlfriend that I am currently with (and have been with for 6 months now) made life better. Many others had a big part in this: Derek, Chuck, and Marc Lobliner were a huge help, along with Micheal Kendrea.

This was not easy for me, and I hope this allows some people to sort of "come out of the closet" on these types of things, because I am proof that it can happen to anyone. If it was not for these guys, I really don't know where I would be at today. I have never actually met any of them face to face, but I consider them friends for life!
They deserve as much credit as anyone. I think eating disorders like this can happen to anyone, and many people have a disorder but just don't know it yet.

My advice would be not to judge what the mirror says, but judge what others are saying - and listen to people. The mind plays weird games, so take care of your body and live a happy life.
To Chuck, Derek, Marc, and Mike: Thank you so much for what you have done! I cannot thank you enough, and can't wait to see ya at the 'O'!
