Background
"Once upon a time, not so long ago" I was born in West Berlin as Birget Brodzinski, to an illegal Polish immigrant family. After a couple years of trying to gain citizenship my parents were to be deported back to Poland. Not wanting to go back to communism, they were able to get accepted to move to the land of opportunity. When we first moved to this great nation we lived in Chicago for a few months, then Boise for a few months, then they discovered the beautiful state of Colorado where I have lived since I was 3 years old, and eventually changed my name to something a bit easier to pronounce.
Coming from a low income family I grew up either being at school or being at work. Finally, the second semester my senior year in high school I got burnt out, quit work, and me and my best friend decided to join a gym. I caught the bug immediately and there was no turning back.
I went to CU-Denver for both under grad and grad majoring in multiple business subjects, and eventually became a CPA. I now work for Comcast Cable Company, which provides me with the schedule flexibility and limited travel requirements so I could pursue my passion for competing in figure.
I first learned about the local bodybuilding shows because the gym I started at was filled with fans of the sport. I eventually had to switch gyms, so by the time I was financially ready to try my first figure competition I lost contact with all my old bodybuilder friends. So I emailed Jeff Taylor from www.jefftaylor.com to ask how the heck I do one of these thing. He referred me to several coaches and that is how I found my coach and now my friend, Shondra Haywood. (Turned out we once both worked at the same gym but we had different schedules so we never actually knew each other.)
My first show was the Colorado Natural Open in October 2005 where I placed 5th, and I loved it! Now I'm looking forward to my first national show at the USA's in July 2008. Also, because of how much I love competing I joined Jeff Taylor's crew to help other athletes experience the great accomplishment of competing. Jeff's crew is made up of the nicest and most self-sacrificing volunteers, including his lovely wife Melissa, who work very hard share their love of the sport. I'm very blessed to work with them.
In addition to my passion for training and advancing in my career at Comcast, I enjoy learning about the Bible, American history (especially the Revolutionary War), politics, and personal finance.
I'm thankful to bodybuilding.com for giving me the opportunity to share my passion, knowledge, and experiences I have acquired, and look forward to educate and encourage everyone involved in a fitness lifestyle.
