The holiday season is upon us once again and now more than ever we need that little something extra to give us the edge in the battle for fat loss! We have training, nutrition, and motivation, but we need one more thing... Supplements! Though there are many people out there who rely way too much upon our technology and improvement via pharmaceuticals, there is no denying that there are very legitimate and beneficial supplements out there that can aid in weight gain, muscle gain, fat loss, and overall health. Well today we're going to take a look at the products that help us lose the body fat. It's very difficult these days to figure out which products are crap and which ones actually work. We're going to look at three different products, see how they work differently, the same, and which one may work best for you! This is your chance to show the world what you think are the best fat burning supplements currently available. Help others make a choice so they can get the fastest results!
Secondly, a nice clean energy, similar to that of the Amp took me through my workout without a crash or jitters. This is definitely a product that before you use it, you need to realize you are not going to get some insane energy rush like that of a liquid energy drink.
The only downside is that we don't know the exact caffeine content of Leviathan, so it is something that you must gauge and begin with the minimum dosage before delving into regular extensive usage. Especially because of the Yohimbe content, you must not take too many at once or you will experience very severe perspiration and dehydration.
If you are not a fan of caffeine, definitely check the ingredients and caffeine content prior to purchasing. Related Caffeine Articles:
Have you adjusted your diet and exercise program to suit your goals? If you are working out minimally, and your diet is not in check, you are not going to maximize your results from a fat burner. A supplement is exactly that, a supplement. It helps you reach your goal, but doesn't do it all by itself.
Always remember not to take a fat burner or any other energy supplement within six hours of bed time. I often will allow up to eight hours even. You don't want to be restless before bed, sleep is when you grow and recharge!
All fat burners have some diuretic effect, thus they will drain your body pretty quickly due to the caffeine at least. Drinking at least a gallon of water a day during the usage of fat burners will not only help with hydration but further rid your body of toxins.
Everyone reacts differently to products, so before using a product for an extensive amount of time, gauge it, and if you feel anything odd, contact the manufacturer or return it to the store that you purchased it from.
Immediately after the Ephedra ban, we were left with few fat burners that were once again your concoction of caffeine and diuretics. Nowadays, we have a wide array of very effective fat burners. The one downside is that you do not find that crazy energy that was associated with taking ephedrine based products. Related Ephedra Articles: As I did state earlier, the ingredient Geranamine found in Amp does have very powerful similarities to ephedrine though. Long lasting energy, increase in metabolism, and powerful effects on focus and cognitive function yield many similar feelings that are associated with the usage ephedrine, without all of the dangerous side effects and health dangers.
The experience that I have had with the fat burners that I suggested were all very good. I definitely would encourage people who are looking for a boost in energy and assistance in fat loss to give them a try. Considering that they are all very affordable, you can afford to try each of them and gauge your results. Overall my favorite product that I have tried and am still using is Ergopharm's Amp. It's a product that I feel very good about and have liked the results that have come along with it. Whether it's a good attribute to you or not, Amp is formulated so you do not get jittery energy. The energy I get is always very clean and steady, and most importantly I do not experience the crash that many fat burners and energy supplements come along with. A few reminders do include remembering the importance of a proper diet, exercise, and rest regimen. If you are working out and still eating like crap, your gains will be few and far between. If you are eating healthy but not working out properly, you'll still be missing a lot. Lastly, if you are not resting and partying two or three nights a week including drinking, your results will be hindered. Train hard, eat hard, and rest hard! If you've never tried a fat burner before, this is the perfect time to give them a chance. This could be the supplement that you've been reluctant to try, but unless you're willing to give it a shot? You'll never know! When looking for a fat burner, there are two essential things to look for:
Personally I've had excellent results with fat burners, and here are a few of my picks for the most effective of the bunch:
Not only was this the Bodybuilding.com's fat loss product of the year for 2007, it also was the energy supplement of the year! This product is one of the best selling and most critically acclaimed of the fat loss supplements, but that is just a side note. This supplement has been the most effective of anything I've tried to get me back into beach-body shape after a nice winter/spring mass gaining period. When taking Lipo, your body feels warmer and you can tell it's working because of it. The reason that Lipo 6 is such an effective fat burner really lies in its ingredients, which are shown below:
Ingredients: 1 Synthetic 99% Guggulsterones Guggulsterones come from a plant in India, where it has been used as an aid for weight loss for many years. Essentially guggulsterones stimulate the thyroid gland in an enzymatic way to increase the metabolism. 2 Yohimbine HCL Yohimbe comes from the bark of a west-African tree, and is a very powerful antioxidant which can also lead to vasodilatation in the body. 3 This basically means that the blood vessels of the body will increase in diameter, supplying the muscles and skin with more oxygen and nutrients. This is good because it causes an increase in heart rate and allows more efficient oxygenation to the muscles especially while exercising. Caffeine Anhydrous Caffeine is essentially the most popular stimulant found in normal foods. Some examples include coffee, tea, and most soft drinks. Caffeine is most simply a central nervous stimulant, which basically means that physical as well as mental processes of the body are stimulated. For us bodybuilders, this means that that groggy feeling right after waking, or the three-o-clock slump can be removed, as long as you have your trusty caffeine supplement on hand. Bioperine 5mg Bioperine comes from black pepper. Bioperine is very capable of moving directly into the bloodstream and therefore aids in the absorption of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. This increased absorption of nutrients which would aid in thermogenesis, one of the main goals of a fat burner. 4 The real reason that I chose this product as my number one selection is that it has been incredibly effective for me. It has a small number of ingredients, all of which have a distinct and specific purpose, rather than some fat burners having dozens of ingredients for the sake of filling out the label. It also utilizes a liquid-capsule, which dissolves in the stomach better than a solid pill. While on Lipo 6, I can maintain an exceptionally high amount of productivity at work as well as the gym due to the fact that it doesn't give me jitters or make me antsy. It has just the right amount of kick to get you going.
This product uses some of the same ingredients as in Lipo 6 including:
A couple addition ingredients are added as well, which will be discussed below. Ingredients: Green Tea Extract Green Tea Extract is known for its excellent antioxidant potential as well as its ability to aid in proper flora of bacteria and other microorganisms in the intestines 5 The addition of these two pieces aid in the overall health of an individual, thus aiding in allowing proper blood flow, and the ability to work out to ones full potential. Sunflower Oil Extract The main purpose of sunflower oil is that it contains Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA.) This molecule is a rather complicated unsaturated fat, but to simplify it to a degree, it essentially regulates fat and protein metabolism in animals 6 This essentially slows the breakdown of protein during exercise, which is definitely what we're looking for here at Bodybuilding.com. Coleus forskohlii Very simply stated, Coleus forskohlii has a stimulating effect on the thyroid. This ramps up metabolism which means that more calories will be burnt without even exerting yourself. It also has an effect on cAMP which is the simple and broken down form of ATP, the body's energy molecule. This simply causes more energy output to create the ATP's and thus more calories burnt by the user 7 Overall, I chose this product once again because of the simple ingredient profile, and the lack of fillers. I like this product more than Lipo 6 in one aspect. It has less caffeine so I can take it at night and still sleep soundly. Now I know that not all people can sleep under the effects of a stimulant, but I assure you that this supplement is much milder than Lipo 6, perhaps a great choice for people who can't handle Lipo 6.
My third choice for a fat burner is Anadrox by MHP. Now, taking pills and numerous shakes is not my style, so this supplement is awesome because it combines, Creatine Ethyl Ester, L-Arginine (NO2) as well as synephrine and guggulsterones.
With the gains in size due to creatine, as well as the INSANE pumps from the NO2, this product proves to be a one-stop shopping experience for someone looking to put on some lean muscle, as well as leaving excess flab behind.
Ephedra was an exceptionally effective fat burner. Now that it's no longer the key ingredient, loads of research has been going on to find new and safer stimulant and thermogenic ingredients. With these ingredients listed above, we move closer and closer to being as effective as ephedra was, minus the harmful side effects that Ephedra displayed.
I would absolutely recommend these three supplements to anyone looking to lose a few extra pounds. Keep in mind, depending on your goal, I would suggest a different one, for example the Thermo-Cuts has less caffeine and the Anadrox has NO2 and Creatine. One last note about fat burners. Always pay very close attention to the way you feel while on them. If you feel uncomfortable in any way then you should stop taking that product. There are stimulant free fat burners as well as thyroid regulators that can work just as well. There's no sense in risking it all for a couple extra pounds.

I would have to say, without any doubt, that Leviathan by Palo Alto Labs is the number one fat burner on the market today. I used this product for one month and the results were simply amazing. I am not the type of person that really develops a loyalty for any single brand or product, but Leviathan certainly distinguished itself from the rest of the pack. This product is a much needed double edged sword when it comes to attempting a cut that doesn't sacrifice muscle. After trying a few days of samples, I decided to give this product a full test drive while cutting this past Spring. I am always paranoid about losing muscle each and every time I begin a cutting regimen so I figured this would definitely be worth a try. In an eight week effort to reach 12% body fat, I successfully did so with virtually no loss in muscle. Tribulus has always been effective at increasing my strength but I think the ingredients in Leviathan had a synergistic effect that made keeping strength up on a cut even easier. The energy from this product is very clean and I never had feelings of nervousness while using it.
This product would come a not-too-distant second place. I used this product last year when I was cutting and I believe it provided me with very noticeable results. It impressed me initially simply due to the strong ingredient profile and the combination of the most effective compounds available. I think the addition of Rasberry ketones, PEA, and high potency Green/Oolong tea give this product an edge over many other fat loss products. I lost around 10lbs. in a month using Scorch and was able to maintain muscle throughout the process. The energy I got from this product was very good as well. It's not over stimulating yet it is very noticeable at the same time.
C2 is, in my opinion, a very underrated product that is certainly not on the top of the best seller list. I bought this product because it appeared to have a very good ingredient profile in terms of fat loss, but also because of the addition of nootropic and adaptogenic herbs: Rhodiola and Bacopa. Energy was increased with the very first dose, however, after about one week of continuous use I noticed some cognitive enhancement. I found it easier to focus in my college classes and it was very beneficial when studying for exams or writing papers. As far as fat loss goes, I managed to I lose approximately 4lbs over a one month period and I was not really cutting calories as much as I usually do when cutting.
I must confess that I was never a fan of Ephedra or any products that contained it. Yes, it was very effective for fat loss, however, I find the aforementioned products and their ingredients just as effective, or more so, than Ephedra. The results I have obtained while using these products are comparable to what I was able to achieve five years ago when using Ephedra-based products. In fact, I believe that ingredients like Yohimbine and Synephrine, when combined with Caffeine Anhydrous, are probably superior to the old EC stack that is so dearly missed by many.
As mentioned, all of these products gave me incredible results. Other products, some with ingredient profiles very similar to those in my top three, did not work as well as these. In addition, many made me nervous and jittery, and this kind of energy made them difficult to tolerate. With the top three products I listed, I was able to lose fat while using them.
Let me start off by saying, I don't believe in fat burners. I am not saying they don't work, but they can be expensive, and there are much better routes to take. The main reason I am not a fan of the fat burner supplements is the fact that it leads people to believe that they either don't need to clean up their diet to lose weight, they don't need to exercise, or both. For this reason, my top 3 are not all considered "fat burners," but are very beneficial when trying to lose weight.
All right, so it's not exactly a supplement, but a huge problem with people trying to lose weight is that they look for "the magic pill." Truth be told, all the pills in the world won't help you if you are not willing to put the effort into learning about nutrition, and putting the time into setting up a diet plan. It is not hard at all, and I can say from personal experience, a healthy diet is the biggest factor when losing weight, and it doesn't cost extra money to be throwing back pills. Before anyone can even start trying to lose weight, they have to get their diet in order or nothing else will help. Forum Threads:
I chose caffeine as the number one product. Higher Power is a great brand to use because it's cheap and affordable at only $0.17 per 200mg serving, and 120 servings in a bottle. Caffeine works the best while trying to lose weight, its simple, and caffeine accelerates the heart rate, which leads to more fat being burned. I don't suggest being up on caffeine at all times, but it makes a great pre workout weight loss supplement that will also help out your workout by giving supplying the body with more energy. I would personally suggest using caffeine for 2-3 weeks, then cycling off of it for a week or 2 to allow the body to get rid of any built up tolerance. Also, don't take caffeine if you feel you are too sensitive to stimulants, and never take too much as excessive amounts can be hazardous to one's health.
My third choice is probably more for athletes or bodybuilders who are concerned about strength and muscle mass. Xtend probably won't be useful for the average Joe, but for anyone who loves to lift weights, Xtend is great. Xtend is a BCAA product, what this does is it will help your body preserve muscle while trying to lose weight, which means you can keep more strength, and lose more fat, instead of muscle. As an added bonus, it helps out greatly with muscle recovery and endurance through workouts.
What I listed, are not exactly fat burners, and for that reason, they don't compare to Ephedra. Caffeine exerts similar effects that Ephedra would, and works best when the two are stacked together. But even Ephedra wont do anything for most people if their diet plan is not in check.
Would I recommend fat burners? No. From my top 3 list, yes, all 3 are recommended. Losing weight is simple, if you need 2200 calories to maintain your weight you consume 1800-2000 calories of clean, healthy, and protein-rich food and exercise regularly (and with added cardio). I know this, because my mom has probably tried 9 different fat burners, all with the same effect. NOTHING. Why? Sure, they work, they will help, but not if you don't eat healthy. She has used everything from herbs to stimulants, and nothing has worked. I am currently cutting as well, I don't even use caffeine for the extra boost, I just eat healthy and exercise, plus the Xtend to prevent muscle breakdown, and I'm losing a pound a week and looking great. So unless you are an advanced lifter with a set diet plan and workout routine who is just having trouble losing the stubborn fat, I would not recommend a fat burner.
