The Company's offices are located at 1480 Route 9 North, Woodbridge, NJ 07095. Dr. Robert Portman, who founded PHLI, is the Chairman, President and CEO. PHLI is a research based nutrition company whose mission is to identify novel science platforms that can serve as a basis for developing proprietary products. The Company research efforts are focused on sports performance and weight loss/management. PHLI has a Scientific Advisory Board consisting of eminent scientists and researchers who guide the clinical development program. The Company's research program has focused on development of nutritional products that stimulate insulin release and reduce free radical formation. Insulin plays a critical role in replenishing muscle energy stores during and after exercise and helping the muscle rebuild protein damaged during exercise. This approach led to the development of Endurox R4 Performance/ Recovery Drink. Endurox R4 is specifically designed to speed recovery and reduce muscle damage after exercise. Endurox R4 incorporates a unique ratio of carbohydrate to protein (4-1) which speeds replenishment of energy stores by stimulating insulin release. Endurox R4 also contains antioxidants to reduce free radical formation, as well as essential amino acids that are depleted during exercise.
The company has conducted numerous trials evaluating Endurox R4 versus conventional sports drinks. These studies show that Endurox R4 taken after exercise can significant improve performance in a subsequent workout compared to a conventional sports drink. On April 18, 2000, the company received a patent for Endurox R4.
The technology behind Endurox R4 has been incorporated into a sports drink designed for a specific use during Endurox R4. This new product called ACCELERADE will be introduced May 15, 2001. ACCELERADE contains the 4-1 ratio of carbohydrate to protein and antioxidants to reduce post exercise muscle soreness. Studies conducted at the University of Texas (Department of Kinesiology) showed ACCELERADE, compared to a conventional sports drink containing the same amount of carbohydrate significantly improved endurance up to 24% during exercise. In March 2001 the Company filed an application for ACCELERADE to the US Patent and Trademark Office.
The company's research efforts in sports nutrition are continuing. The company is looking at incorporating the Endurox R4 technology into other product forms including gels and bars.
